Welcome |
The Area |
The Area is part of the department de Vaucluse with the best known cities nearby being Orange and Avignon. The nearest town of any size is Carpentras but the most obvious land mark is Mont Ventoux. Flassan is at the southern foot of Mont Ventoux and is surrounded by vines and fruit trees but has forests and gorges close to the North East. Wine drinkers will find the proximity of Gigondas, Vacqueyras and Beaumes-de-Venise attractive with Chateauneuf-du-Pape no great distance. They could also do worse than to try the local co-ops, our favourites being at Viles-sur-Auzon and Bedoin but perhaps the best local wine is from the Domaine St. Pierre on the outskirts of the village. Golfers will find the course within half an hour or so, Golf de Provence at Saumane near Isle sur la Sangu to the south (a scenic hilly course) and two courses east of Avignon at Le Pontet (sign posted near the motorway entrance) and Mosieur, both parkland.
For swimming, particularly for children, try the Plan d’Eau at Mormoiron (above), which is the next village, five minutes away.
